The solar tree has a photovoltaic panel surface area of 309.83 square meters, and was officially certified as the world's largest solar tree by the Guinness World Record (GWR).

The Guinness World Records has confirmed that India has installed the world's largest solar tree. The construct has a 309.83m2 solar panel surface and was built by the Central Mechanical Institute of Engineering of India at the Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Machinery in Ludhiana, Punjab. The institute is part of the government's Scientific and Industrial Research Council.

The structure broke the previous record of 67m2 solar tree panel surface area, generating 53.6kWp of electricity and is estimated to generate 160-200kWh per day.

Harish Hirani, director of the Central Institute of Mechanical Engineering, said, " These solar trees have extensive applications, such as distributed power generation, to meet the demand for different integrated agricultural activities, charging electric tractors, electric tillers, and EV [electric vehicle] charging stations; promoting agricultural pumps for irrigation; providing solar-based cooking systems for food preparation sites on farms; and extending the shelf life of [goods].”
